E-BUILDERS IT'S A MOVEMENT, NOT JUST A COMPANY

Why you should care about Green Building: 3 valuable reasons:

It brings value to your health.
It brings value to your home
It brings value to the world.

GREEN BRINGS VALUE TO YOUR HEALTH

The environment has a vast impact on your health. Just like pollution in the outside air, indoor pollution may cause problems for people, especially those with asthma or other respiratory illnesses. Unfortunately, older homes and newly built conventional homes carry many environmental challenges.

Conventional gas ovens can emit several types of pollutants, some of which can be poisonous. For example, depending on the unit's age or how its operated, carbon monoxide or nitrogen oxides can accidentally be released from a gas stove.

Likewise, heaters that burn gas, oil, or kerosene can allow the products of combustion to stay in the house rather than escaping outside. These are known as "un-vented heaters" because they are not designed with ventilation to the outside air. In poorly ventilated homes, these combustion byproducts can build up, polluting the air inside your home, similar to a car's tail pipe. These heaters also emit water vapor, increasing a home's humidity and increasing the chance for mold to grow inside the walls.

Chemicals and materials that we currently use in our homes or that are used in conventional remodels can also become pollutants. For instance:

Formaldehyde is a commonly used chemical that is used in the manufacturing of many laminated plastics, particle boards, carpets and industrial adhesives. Many people are sensitive to formaldehyde and can become sick or lethargic when exposed to it even for short periods at low concentrations.

Paints and Solvents - Vapors from some types of paint contain chemicals called solvents that keep the paint liquid until it is applied. Some common solvents include mentholated spirits, kerosene, and petrol. In addition, some paint thinners contain toluene and xylems, which are part of a group of chemicals called volatile organic compounds.

When you consider that Americans spend an average of 90% or more of their time indoors and that indoor levels of pollutants can be two to five times higher than outdoor levels, it's important for remodels and newly constructed homes to eliminate as many pollutants as possible.

Healthy E- Building Solutions:

Recent studies reveal that buildings with good overall environmental quality can reduce the rate of respiratory disease, allergy, asthma, sick building symptoms, and enhance worker performance.

Resolving today's Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) problems and preventing future issues through simple, cost effective, practical solutions is our goal. The good news is that eco-friendly building methods can be integrated into homes at any stage, from design and construction to renovation and deconstruction.

GREEN BRINGS VALUE TO YOUR HOME

Because of the current mortgage crisis and the housing market bubble bursting, housing prices in the Los Angeles area right now are significantly down-except for green homes.

A September 2007 article published in the Los Angeles Times entitled 'Solar Powered Homes Defy a Cool Housing Market' shows how building energy efficient homes can not only maintain the value of your home, but increase it.

Another market research report conducted by McGraw-Hill Construction found that:

Homeowners are 85% happier with their new green homes versus their previous non-green ones.

63% percent of green homeowners report lower operating and maintenance costs as the key motivation behind buying a green home.

Depending on how green you want your home to be, green building will cost more in the short run. But most people live in their homes for many years. When you keep expenses in a long term green perspective, things start to add up. For example:

Depending on your home's exposure to sunlight, spending extra money on low-E insulated windows can create an energy savings of $200 per year.

An energy star dishwasher costs $40 a year less than a non-energy star model. It doesn't seem like much, but when you factor in maintenance and typically longer lifespan, it adds up to $900.00 over the 20 year lifespan of the machine.

Remodeling a home with proper insulation, energy efficient heating and cooling, water saving devices and landscaping, and compact florescent bulbs can really make a $Green difference to monthly utility bills, especially as oil and gas bills rise in the coming years.

It may take a decade or more for some green improvements like solar, but everything you spend on green pays for itself eventually. After that, those pay-back savings start to pay you with continued lower energy costs and increased market value.

E-Builders can tell you about the many local, state, and national energy rebate incentive programs for solar, low-flush toilets, energy efficient refrigerators, and other qualifying systems that will cut
down those initial green building costs.

GREEN BRINGS VALUE TO THE WORLD

In addition to adding value to your health and home, it's no secret that the world is suffering from the effects of global warming. But you don't have to change the world or even your neighbor. All you have to do is think green with your own home. E-Builders will help you with our expertise, our partners, and our commitment to changing the planet, one home at a time.
